Oona

Once, long ago a fairy was cursed to be an ogre for ever. She was a beautiful fairy but as an ogre she was hideous. Her heart stayed fierce and pure and after many years as a cursed thing she died giving birth to a small ogre daughter with unruly black hair and a beautiful lavender eye.

...this is the story Oona tells me anyway, I'm not entirely sure about it myself, although Oona does have the most gorgeous purple eye. Oona likes spinning tales and lies spill from her mouth like wildflower honey. She tells me the ribbon she wears is for the Foxglove and Belladonna she grows in her Poison Garden. She also tells me its a ribbon for cookery that she is a great pie chef, though I'm not sure there is such a thing, but she does like to help out in the kitchen when cakes are being baked or potions must be made.

Oona is another primitive style monster, she is made from linen, cotton, polyfil, vintage buttons, a vintage doily, a snip of lillalotta ribbon, black yarn, thread, and love. She was stained with a mixture of italian espresso grounds, vanilla, and cinnamon.

"What cares I for human hearts? Soft and spiritless as porridge! A fairy's heart beats fierce and free!" (Oona in the film Legend)

Oona is now listed for sale in my etsy shop.

Claudette and Lisette

****SOLD****

Meet Claudette and Lisette, they are lovely little monsters and today has been photograph day. so Claudette (on the right) took it upon herself to trim her hair for their portrait sitting. Beautiful isn't it?

Lisette wants to be a famous singer, she sings along to everything, unfortunately she sounds like a cat in a blender. Claudette on the other hand likes to tell jokes (normally quite bad ones that are a) not funny b) rarely make any sense and c) usually in exceedingly poor taste) and practice magic tricks for she wants to be a magician when she grows up. (I dare not tell them Vaudeville is dead)

Sewn using calico, some stripy fabric I found at a garage sale in Coeur D Alene, Idaho, vintage buttons, lillalotta book tape, polyfil toy stuffing, and a vintage doily. Harrison helped me age them (grunge-ify) with a mixture of coffee, vanilla, and cinnamon while we sat in the garden deciding what Claudette and Lisette liked to do. For the record they both hate sprouts and love orange candies.

Eleanor

****SOLD****

Meet Eleanor.. she is 8 going on 38. She aspires to be a spinster or a librarian, she loves Stoker and Poe. She wishes for all the world that she had a pair Ravens to name Edgar and Lenore.

'All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream.' -Edgar Allan Poe

Eleanor is another primitive doll made with scraps of fabric, ribbon, vintage buttons and a vintage thrifted doily. I think I might be obsessed with making them, but it has cheered me up from a terrible start to the day to sit in the garden and finish sewing Eleanor. She many not be every one's cup of tea but I love Eleanor's dark little heart.

'shhhhh I'm reading!'

Archibald the Monster

****SOLD****

meet Archibald, a small three eyed monster. He plays to many video games.

His favourite shows are Doctor Who, Doctor Horrible and Firefly. Archibald loves sweets, classic rock, and hates tomatoes and bananas.

Achibald wants to be a space cowboy when he grows up.
Archibald was designed by Harrison, age 6 and a very important 1/2. Harrison helped out in every stage of designing, sewing, stuffing and decorating little Archibald. I have promised that I would list Archibald for sale on etsy (which I have done *wibble* ) and that H would the profits of Arcibald's sale to buy whatever his little heart desire.

did you get that bit about me reopening my etsy shop? Because I did and I am slightly petrified but hey its for H so I had to do it right?

**** Archibald sold! When the email popped through on my phone I teared up a bit (because I'm silly). H is so excited that we get to parcel him and send him on to his new home. He has already asked if we can make another monster together! I told him he is welcome to draw some more monsters and we will make another one together tomorrow.... oh Boy has just run up to whisper in my ear that we will make one for Matt for Father's day tomorrow (nothing like last minute presents eh?) to go with the cards and the breakfast he is making for his dad. bless

Cordelia

Say hello to Cordelia! She is a bit shy, loves tea and biscuits, hates slugs with a passion, and often hides herself away in books. Unfortunately she has no arms so she must rely on others to turn the pages for her. She pretends she watches documentaries about weaving, the black plague and anthropology, but really she watches TV cop shows (CSI and Criminal Minds), and shows with geeks in (The Big Bang Theory) and vampire shows too (True Blood, Buffy, Moonlight, and Angel). She likes to think she is prim and proper, but she can cuss like a sailor when she wants to.

Cordelia is my attempt at a primitive style doll, I have dabbled a few times before with primitive style art (the rustic quality appeals to me). She is made from red and white ticking, calico fabric, vintage doily, ribbon, lillilotta book tape, vintage buttons, wool, thread, poly-fil, and stained with tea and coffee. I do like how she has turned out and I'm considering opening my etsy shop to sell her but I haven't the foggiest clue what amount to list her for. Any ideas my lovely readers?
