secret message holder and picnic plans

Saturday morning I made a secret message holder for H using an old key chain and a pet i.d. that had been kicking around the house forever. I typed the note and gave the secret key chain to Harrison wrapped in a bit of tissue paper. He has spent all weekend twisting the pet i.d. capsule open and shut and reading the note 'Dr. Horrible is my hero.' over and over again. I told him he can type his own secret note or the location of a secret hiding place and we will play spies. Or possibly list the secret location of food stores in the event of an alien invasion or zombie apocalypse. A simple thing to make a boy happy.

______________

picnic plan update: Its been a manic few weeks here with awards, organizing the school summer fair and more things than I can remember to blog at this moment in time. A few interested bloggers, twitter-ers have said that they are free to come play on Mondays or Wednesdays so I'm going to call the shots and say:

Picnic Blog/Tweet Up
Where: Chatsworth Grounds
(meeting near the car park on the grass near the trees leading up to the shops)
When: Monday the 8th of August
Time: From 11am-4pm (ish)
What to bring: a picnic, the kids, craft work in progress bag if you want to sit and sew/knit/sketch while picnic-ing and chatting. Cake works too but is not essential as Chatsworth has excellent cake and coffee.

Nothing is set in stone I figured this would be as flexible as possible with many different people coming from all over the place. I just thought it would be great to have a little get together. I may possibly be mad, as I like many of you I'm an anti-social introvert, But I have met quite a few bloggers and twitter people and so far we have all got on like a house on fire.

Any Questions?

pie chips and a mind lost

pie chips in paper cone

I saw a recipe on a blog somewhere weeks ago and I have no idea where it was and I didn't think to keep it but the idea stuck in my head that I could make my own.... especially as there was a lump of pie crust sitting forlornly in the fridge being ignored day after day. So I rolled out the crust sliced it and arranged it on a non-stick baking sheet, dabbed a bit of melted butter, sprinkled some sugar and popped them in the oven for....er 10 min on a moderate heat. I then put some strawberry jam in pots for dipping.

Matt thoughts it was awesome, I thought it was fun, the Boy was not impressed in the slightest but that's ok, after a week of being stuck in the house with me due to snow I'm pretty sure I can't do anything right by him. Luckily school is open tomorrow.. otherwise I would have to spend the day rocking in the corner... I'm not entirely sure he would notice that anyway.

New badges have been flying out of my etsy shop as fast as I can list them. So have a look at my shop via the side bar and see what I've been up to with a little help from Harrison. Right now I'm tired, my mind is lost, I will finish listing these few badges I made today, and then I'm making a pot of tea and turning into a couch potato. *cough* *cough* oh and the boy saw fit to give me his cold...so very generous don't you think?

The fourth Doctor

I'm the Doctor

Sometimes my brilliance even astonishes me- Tom Baker the 4th Doctor

I didn't knit the scarf, Harrison bought it on a trip to London. Then he never wore it because its too itchy. But we collared him and made him stand out in the cold with a dripping nose till Matt got a few good shots and then we marched home to the fire, the kettle, hot chocolate and badge making.

Cute little bugger isn't he ?

Parenting you're doing it right when...

Last night when I was cooking dinner, Cajun Chicken wraps, and H was helping me take the ends of the green beans I put my ipod in the docking station and turned up the music.

the Boy: This is my favourite.

me: the Foo Fighters?

the Boy: Yeah the Foo Fighters. This is my favourite song.

Me: It's called The Pretender.

the Boy: Yeah, the Foo Fighters rock. (cue dancing before returning to cutting the ends off the green beans)

Me: What are your other favourites?

Boy: You can only have two favourites.

Me: oh OK.

the Boy: Smoke on the Water

Me: Deep Purple

the Boy: yeah I know Deep Purple.... Smoke on the Water....You Know it's about a hotel on fire? It's awesome! Can we listen to the Blues now? I like the blues.

Me: later we can, I'm cutting up the chicken now.

the Boy: oh

He wandered off after that, the green beans sufficiently murdered, leaving me grinning as I cut up the rest of the chicken. We must be doing something right in the Boy's musical education!
